Eating well when you have cancer
The truth is, eating well can be a challenge when you have cancer. And everyone is affected differently. How your eating changes will be different for everyone depending on your type of cancer and the treatments you get. But the goal for everyone is the same: to eat as well as you can and to stay strong throughout your treatment.
To help with this, the Canadian Cancer Society has released a new booklet called Eating Well When You Have Cancer. It's written for people with cancer and their caregivers to help with meal planning, shopping and preparation.
It includes tips and ideas to help with:
symptoms that can affect your eating
treatments side effects that can affect your eating
feelings and emotions that can disrupt your eating habits
changes in how your body uses food and nutrients
And the best part, at the end of the booklet you'll find some recipes to help you eat well. Some of them were even provided by our community members!
I hope you'll check out the booklet, try a couple of recipes, and share your thoughts with us. You can find several existing discussions in the treatments and side effects section, and I've started a new thread here. And if you have a recipe that you'd like to share, please be sure to post it.
