Meet...Kim

Post body
Spring is upon us and it is time to meet another one of our inspirational members Kim, better known in our community as kims1961. Take a second to get to know her better below and say "Hi" before she gets busy with all her wonderful outdoor hobbies!
Experience with Cancer:
Diagnosed with Invasive Ductal Carcinoma Stage 2, August 2017. Bilateral mastectomy, chemotherapy, radiation and now completing the last of my Herceptin treatments! Will restart Letrozole soon.

What Would I Like People to Know:
We are more than the one- liner as above. Each of us have our own story to tell and our own way we want to navigate treatment. Our mental health is as important as our physical health so the online Cancer Connection community has been my lifeline.

Words of Wisdom:
Fill Your Life with Adventures, Not Things. Have Stories to Tell, Not Stuff to Show
Thank goodness for the internet - so many inspirational quotes. Sometimes these have helped during those difficult times during treatment.
Supporters: This is the time when connections are SO important. Family, friends, colleagues, neighbours - who will define as our supporters can be limitless. I feel blessed to have met - virtually - so many other cancer patients on the online community. Your stories have humbled and inspired me.

Hobbies and Interests:
I have always loved being in the outdoors - running, hiking, biking, swimming. In fact, my family would often “kick” me out of the house when I got too “grumpy”. This has had to change with the cancer diagnosis as there were times I was very fatigued or not feeling well. Cancer has softened me -i am no longer frustrated at how slow my running times are, but rather, feel blessed I can still go for a run.
I picked up knitting again a few years ago and it has been a curse and a joy. A curse because I just can’t walk past a yarn store anymore ( how many projects on the go is too many?) and a joy as it’s so portable. I’ve knitted in some of the coolest hospital waiting rooms around!

Thank you so much Kim for helping us get to know you better and thank you for all the support you provide to our community!

You threw me a line when I was drowning. You answered my questions and shared your experience when I began my journey. You made me feel less alone. From the bottom of my heart I thank you.
