Value Frameworks Study
Please find attached the desire of the Cuthbert group to find some cancer patients to participate in a 90 minute focus group to share cancer patients thoughts and experiences regarding how oncology treatment decisions are made.
The goal of this study is to talk with cancer patients and family caregivers to understand their opinions on how cancer treatment decisions are made. The resulting goal would be to use “ the responses to understand factors related to decision making around value assessment frameworks in oncology treatment decisions making and hopefully lead to developing healthy policies with patient centered goals at the forefront”.
Only participants from AB, ON and BC are being selected as part of the program and any cancer type is part of the study.
Another study being conducted is an Opioid study. Should you be a resident of Alberta and a cancer patient, they are looking for individuals to participate in an interview (approximately 60 minutes) to share your thoughts and views on opioid prescriptions. “Opioids are frequently prescribed for cancer related pain. While opioids provide substantial benefit for pain management when used appropriately, they are also associated with serious risks. The goal would be to take the participants responses to understand factors related to decision making around opioid prescription. Using this information, hopefully healthy policies including safe prescribing approaches for all cancer patients can be developed”.
