Working on metastatic prostate cancer

On Mach 17 2023 I'm starting my first injection of Lupron for a two year period. I was wondering if one can still work while on this medication? I've read so many negative things about the side effects I'm worried and don't know what to expect. Any advise on this treatment would be highly appreciated. Thanks Donald123

@Donald123 Hi,

I was on Casodex for 30 days and Lupron for six months. Most of the side effects are not that bad. You can expect hot flashes, total loss of sex drive and ED. During a two year treatment cycle you'll probably grow a nice set of boobs (moobs?). My biggest issue was with severe, almost suicidal depression…apparently I need testosterone to stay happy. But my PSA dropped from 9.8 to 0.30 and dropped further after my prostate was removed.

Yes, you can work during treatment…I was retired at the time but still stayed very active, usually cycled for about 4-5 hours/day and kept up my normal daily routine. The thing to watch out for is a rising PSA while on the Lupron. This may trigger more aggressive treatment.

Hang in there, it's really not that bad…stay happy, avoid being grumpy.

Thanks Jackwb, did you get your prostate removed? My PSA was above 50 when I got my prostate removed. I was told at the time it most likely would Metastasize. So now I have to go through another phase in my treatment. Thanks again for the information it all helps me to cope a little better. Donald123
