Hello, my wife has been diagnosed with breast cancer and after 4 months of chemo and radiation for a subsequent brain tumour, we have initiated a virtual consultation process with Memorial Sloan Kettering in NYC. I would like to hear from people that have done the same, to get advice on how to go about doing this consultation. Thank you.
I was diagnosed with unknown primary cancer in 2016. I was not pleased / confident with the oncologist and the prognosis. I requested and received a 2nd opinion at Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto. The first oncologist sent the 2nd opinion oncologist the information they had to date. I was scheduled for more tests at PMH even before the consult. I met with the new medical oncologist and they presented me with the treatment plan, and had made an appointment with a surgeon to assess me.
I'd suggest you have your questions prepared. A good resource I can share from the Canadian Cancer Society details what questions to ask of the medical team:
I read the MSK NY remote 2nd opinion information: https://www.mskcc.org/experience/become-patient/international-patients/requesting-medical-records-review and it explained that all submitted information would be reviewed for the consult. The individual decides what level of service is requested, and then that information is provided.
I am curious to know if you requested a 2nd opinion from Breast Cancer Specialist in Ontario. I am going to send you a private message with some information that may be of assistance.
Can I ask how much the New York hospital charge for 2nd opinion typically？
My pituitary tumor got 26 radiation and new MRI and CT scan were dome as I had to skip many days due to side effects.
I requested for 2nf opinion on the determination of the planning based on new MRI and CT scan.
My oncologist in SBH wrote referral letter without information of the new MRI and CT scan for new assessment of the planning.
Therefore the referred radiation oncologist in PM h declined imo.
So I'm in trouble.
Sending all the documents to NY seems big job in addition to the fee.
Then how much NY typically charge,？
Canadian hospitals should work much better imo.
