Woman may lose home after learning New Brunswick Medicare won't cover Florida cancer surgery

From the CBC website. Saving her life cost her life savings.

Misunderstanding and miscommunication from the doctor gave the patient the wrong impression about treatment availability.

The responsibility falls on both the doctor and the patient to dot their I's and cross their T's.

Not the first thing that comes to mind when timely surgery and treatments are required. Understanding the system can save your life, and your life savings.

"Truly a Good News Follow up Story" I wanted to share here:

"After facing the prospect of selling her home to pay for surgery she had in the U.S., cancer patient Marilyn Steele just found out Medicare will cover the bill."

Like Anne Murray sang so well

"We all could use a little good news today...

So true. 😉

Keep well

ACH2015‍ The Fredericton doctors said the woman's disease was inoperable, and she had only a few months to live. So she had surgery in Florida, and medicaire back home refused to pay, saying she could have had the surgery in Ontario or Alberta. But how was she supposed to know that?  Her Fredericton doctors said she was inoperable! And it's certainly not fair to assume that everyone is good at internet research.   How utterly ridiculous!
Anyway, most of the cost is now being covered. Great news for sure.
