On Wednesday, October 19, 2022, The Peter Gilgan Centre for Women's Cancers in partnership with The Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) and with generous support from The Canadian Society of Plastic Surgeons are delivering a virtual three-hour event for women considering breast reconstruction.
The goals of our annual BRA (Breast Reconstruction Awareness) Day are to provide credible, unbiased information about breast reconstruction. We do this by offering presentations from national leading plastic surgeons, patient stories, education panels and a virtual Show and Tell Lounge and a Photo Gallery
The Show & Tell Lounge and Photo Gallery are very special parts of the event where volunteers who have undergone breast reconstruction, or have chosen to not reconstruct, share their experiences. This has always been a very important and empowering part of the evening where those who have walked this road share what they know in the hopes of helping others make their own reconstruction decision.
Our Show & Tell Lounge and Photo Gallery volunteers will have at-home photos taken of their torso, showing their surgical results. These images, along with a brief description of the volunteer’s experience, will be displayed in a virtual room on the evening of the event. Moderators will be asking questions to the volunteers who will be in the Zoom room (video off) and they will answer and share their experience. We use aliases and remove identifying factors to ensure privacy and confidentiality.
We are hoping to build on our past success and to continue to diversify our Lounge, creating even better representation. If you would like to share your story as a volunteer for the Show and Tell Lounge or Photo Gallery please contact Kate Mlodzik at firstname.lastname@example.org as soon as possible. We’d love to hear from you!
