Estrogen and progesterone are 2 female hormones that can stimulate the growth of some cells, including breast cancer cells. Hormone receptor testing determines the amount of estrogen receptor (ER) and progesterone receptor (PR) in the breast cancer cells. This information will help doctors determine the treatment plan.
