I got my drain out today My pathology report was a little bitter sweet. I had a Lumpectomy and axillrary node dissection. Stage at 2c. Lump was 2 cm in the breast. 9 lymph nodes removed 3 tumor at 1 cm that did break. ER positive PR positive and Her2 negative. My margins are not clear and I will have to have a second day surgery on the 16th of this month. The only thing I am unclear on is the hormones. Can anyone explain this to me?
Thanks Fran

Hi Fran,

Estrogen and progesterone are 2 female hormones that can stimulate the growth of some cells, including breast cancer cells. Hormone receptor testing determines the amount of estrogen receptor (ER) and progesterone receptor (PR) in the breast cancer cells. This information will help doctors determine the treatment plan. For information about hormone receptor testing, please visit our Canadian Cancer Encyclopedia online.

Does anyone else have experience with hormone receptor testing? What is your understanding of this test?
